About Ontario Regional Blood Coordinating Network

Mandate

The Ontario Regional Blood Coordinating Network initiative will take a comprehensive and integrated approach to blood management including:

  1. Reviewing and investigating blood and blood product utilization on a provincial scale with the intent to address variances in practice;
  2. Implementing a communication strategy with hospitals and other stakeholders that use blood and blood products in order to disseminate educational tools, promote best practices, develop a mechanism for hospital feedback and foster and maintain timely two-way communication on blood related matters;
  3. Being a resource to hospitals and other organizations that use blood and blood products; and
  4. Assisting the BPCO; by providing support on provincial projects, information on regional activities and concerns on blood related matters.

The development of the Ontario Regional Blood Coordinating Network is not intended to replace or duplicate existing structures, but to support and enhance the planning, coordination and integration already being undertaken within the province with respect to blood transfusion service delivery.
